Keys

This is Taylor and I. We love each other.

There are some things that we don't particularly 'love' about each other. Specifically our joint bad habit of losing important crap every time everywhere. The following a brief regular conversation that Taylor and I have every morning / night / anytime we need to go somewhere.

Taylor: Hey babe, where are the keys?
Chaun: *Noncommittal grunt that clearly means "I don't know" *
Taylor: *Speaks louder like I can't hear him although he's right next to me*
Chaun? Do you  know where the keys are?
Chaun: Noooooope.
Taylor: You had them last. Where did you put them when you came home?

*cue frantic searching through the entire house, car, neighborhood, and my grandmother's belongings before realizing the keys were in my purse the entire time*

I'm not kidding when I say this happens literally once or twice a day. For whatever reason, we cannot get our crap together and keep important items in the same place everyday. The best part is, we don't even share a set. We have two keys for the car. And somehow each one gets lost multiple times a day. Usually, it's my fault.

But the heavens were smiling down upon me this last Wednesday night. Hallelujah! Wednesday evening, I arrived home with the Chub in tow around dinner time. A couple hours later, Taylor came into the door. The next morning, after our usual song and dance of "Where are the keys?!" I pointed out to Taylor that it actually wasn't my fault this time! For once he had been the last one to arrive home.

Taylor: I didn't drive last night though!
Chaun: Yeah you did. How else did you get home from the train?
Taylor: Nope.
Chaun: Um... yes.
Taylor: You didn't answer your phone last night that so I was forced to walk. Three and a half miles. Next to a busy road. In the dark. While I was sick and dying! [he has this awful sore throat that's been bugging him for a while]

Chaun: *Starts to recall that driving the single car home last night and indeed did not pick up the husband from the train so he did have to walk in the dark next to a busy road for 3 miles while he was sick and dying*
Chaun:  Ohhh...Right.

Taylor: So, do you remember where you put the keys?
Chaun: Nope. Haven't seen them since dinner.

THE END
(unfortunately, not the ending of our bad key losing habits)

  1. I love this post. I don't lose my keys often (but a certain person I'm married to might) but I have a problem with my phone. It's because I use it as my camera and set it down wherever I last used it, so I have to ask myself multiple times a day "When's the last time I took a picture and where was I when I took it?" Keeps my memory sharp, though, so I can't complain.
